The Guitar Blog is a personal pet project of Jorge Cosgyon; it’s been a while since he played in a band setting and his guitar was just sitting there - so actually blogging is his excuse to just play again. he is currently playing for FMD: Foot and Mouth Disorder, a Malabon based alternative/rock band. This blog was supposed to help him on the road to getting his chops back, but since joining the band, he’s been too busy to update in any regular manner, and has taken to referring himself in the third person.
He listens to Battlesword, Ancient Prophecy, Children of Bodom, Philosopher, Vacant Planet, Warchild X, Oneiros, JST, Mytheopeia, Dead Emotions, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, BB King, Muddy Waters, Frank Gambale, Zakk Wylde, Black Sabbath, Warren Haynes, Albert Lee, Allman Brothers, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Bob Marley, Smooth Friction, Barenaked Ladies, Dream Theater, Megadeth, Razorback, Pepe Smith, Sampaguita, Mike Hanopol, Deadends, FMD, PENTAVIA!!!, Lost Key (eherm), Eastern Sunrise, Cafe del Mar, Pantera, Damageplan, Shadows Fall, Audioslave, RATM, Foo Fighters, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Joe Sat/Steve Vai/Eric Johnson/John Petrucci/Paul Gilbert, Mr. Big, Iron Maiden, Gov’t Mule, Our Lady Peace, Arch Enemy, Tuck Andress, Babyface, Sade, Rick Astley, Michael Bolton (sad but true), Earth Wind and Fire, The Jerks, The Dawn, The Temptations, Tears of Fears, OMD, Fra Lippo Lippi, Natalie Merchant, Michelle Branch, Jeff Buckley, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, to *ehem* name a few.
As exhaustive as that list may have been, it’s not; in fact, it’s a small sampling of his tastes. Let me put it this way: if it’s music, he’ll listen to it.
He has a stratocaster clone made by Jack & Danny brothers. He’s replaced the stock pickups with DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Solo Pro on the neck and a DiMarzio Fast Track 2 DP182 on the bridge. He used to use ultra light gauges, but is now getting the hang of the .10 and .12 strings. Pick of choice is the thick teardrop-shaped variety, but it’s been out of stock for so long he’s switched to a more conventional Peavey suede pick. Was once a gadget junkie, but has since settled on a Boss MT-2, Korg AX1500G and a Dunlop Crybaby 535Q.
He supports Indie Pinoy music, and you should, too. If you have spare cash, grab a CD whenever the band playing at the bar you’re at offers them. You won’t regret it, and it goes a long way in helping the musicians.
